Food As Fuel (Or Fueling Obesity)

Read time: 2 minutes
Over the years I’ve heard the word food being replaced by the word fuel. Coaches say it. Personal trainers say it. Weight loss experts say it. “Did you get enough sleep? Did you get enough fuel?” It’s not so much a matter of changing semantics but of changing mentality.
And the mentality that food [...]

Skip a Meal, Gorge Later?

Read time: 2 minutes
Many people believe that skipping a meal will cause them to gorge later. Eating, they say, boosts the metabolism and balances blood sugar. It’s what we’ve heard for years from so-called experts.

Fluctuating Blood Sugar
A meal that [...]

Fasting Hypoglycemia?

Read time: 4.5 minutes
Last week I made myself a guinea pig. But I’ll tell about that toward the end of this post.
As many of you know, I use intermittent fasting (IF) as part of a healthy lifestyle because there are way too many health benefits independent of fat loss and weight management. (You can click on those [...]

Low-Carb (Ketogenic) Diet, Safe!

Read time: 30 seconds
Just stumbled upon this study from 2006, showing that a low-carbohydrate diet is safe for long-term use in obese test subjects with high total cholesterol. Furthermore, in these same subjects, the body weight and body mass index, total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, triglycerides and blood glucose all decreased significantly.
What gets me is that [...]

Q & A

Read time: 5 minutes
It’s been a few days since I lasted posted. I’ve been super busy with other projects but it’s always good to return to stuff I enjoy, like writing in The Lean Saloon.
I want to return by answering several of the questions that reader Mark asked:
Good Morning,
Great blog. It is very encouraging to [...]
